My Art mentor Is Stacia M. (Stacia-apex-2018.weebly.com). She had taken Art 1, 2, 3, 4, and Drawing. For a mentor I'm looking for someone who can give me advice and constructive criticism to help me improve my art skills. I want to improve my painting skills and practice sketching/drawing. Through this experience I hope to become a better overall artist.

Using acrylic paint, creating different shades of colors, and blending was something I needed to practice. That's why I believe this was the most helpful warm-up.
For my two-in-one project I chose to morph a thumb print with a tree. With this combination I fused human with nature. In a previous post about my inspirational artist I expressed how my greatest inspirations are people and nature. This project allowed me to include both. For this piece I started with sketching out the tree and finger print marks, then simply colored in with Sharpie. I specifically chose to color the tree gray to create a contrast from the background. Going into this I was doubting the quality of tree I could draw, in the end I'm satisfies with it, although if I could change one thing I'd make the thickness of the tree lines the same as the background so they morph together better. Most successful aspect of my work, it filling up the entire page. I've always struggled with larger drawings, but I'm proud of how it turned out.
Today's word was Traffic, I wanted to try to create a positive view because most people associate traffic with negativity. The women in the car is enjoying the view and the music, she sees the positive in the little things of life, while most people don't.
This week in art we experimented with different mediums, including pencil, pen, and charcoal. By far my favorite was pencil. I say this because it's easy to fix if you make a mistake as well as easy to blend, the only downside if that it can be hard to create dark-dark values. Charcoal is my second favorite, it's easy to blend, erase, and shade, but it can be very messy and the charcoal is difficult to use because it's so easily broken. Pen is my last favorite, its very simple to get the darker values, but it's difficult to obtain the lighter values which are very important for every drawing. Overall, all were fun to use and helpful for different situations.
My inspirational artist is Elicia Edijanto. I came across one of her water colors, on ThisIsColossal.com, of a silhouette of and elephant and young boy. Nature has always been my biggest inspiration, as well as hers. Animals paired with children is a great combination, in my opinion. It represents innocence, peacefulness, curiosity, and a certain type of tranquility. After gathering my thoughts of her painting I read the commentary of of Elicia about her own painting. Our thoughts aligned almost exactly, which is why I chose her as my inspirational artist.
Elicia Edijanto currently lives and works in Indonesia. She believes that the human-nature relationship should be harmonious and joyful, unlike what it seems to be in reality. She attended Tarumanagara University and Mahatama Gandhi School. She's not very popular yet so we don't know much about her. Her artwork is very inspirational, and I hope I can be as good as an artist as she is one day! |
