Once a piece is created and fired once, you place it into a pit in the ground and add items around it. These items, when burned, cause chemical reactions to add splotches of colors around the piece. Certain item burn into different colors, one example being tea bags can burn red onto your piece.
My piece was unsuccessful because I wasn't able to fully finish my pit fire piece. My piece's shape turned out as I planned, but again I never got to put my piece into the fire pit. I had to do an alternate assignment and glaze my piece.

Start by rolling out clay and cutting an even rectangle, then wrapping it around a pipe. Once its securely wrapped around the pipe you have to attach the two edges with scratch and score. Once the seam has set, remove from the pipe and pinch the edges to form the three legs of the cup. Then you may carve/scratch your design onto your cup and add glazes.
To start this project I had to stuff bags full of paper to create the basic shapes of the body, such as the body, head, and legs. To add shape and character I wrapped the bags with duct tape to alter the basic shapes. Once I made the body into one piece I took strips of newspaper and dipped it into a flour & water mix and applied to the piece. Once I added enough layers of newspaper I added layers of paper towel to smooth out the shape. Once everything dried I used sandpaper to smooth the final bumps out. From here I painted my piece to create the final product. My bunny was successful since turned out to have a 'cartoonish' style to it, which is what I was aiming for. Smoothing out the bumps towards the end, before painting, was the most difficult part.
It was difficult to have to think so randomly for this project. Naturally while making this project I wanted to form a pattern and have repetition throughout but I forced myself to think outside the box which was very difficult for me to do. I wasn't happy with the outcome but I'm happy that I tried a different thought process for my work. The only aspect, in my opinion, that turned out successful was the fact that I never repeated something more than once on this piece. Pelike Vase: Translates to “Wine container”, used for serving liquids (mainly wines) In this project I helped with designing registers Sgraffito: By applying glaze to a piece and scraping away to create an image or design from the contrast Registers: The lines or bars that divide sections of a piece (in the images above they’re the black bars) My project started as a pile of ripped pages from an old book which I folded, glued, sewn, and taped to take the shape of a hot air balloon. The first step was folding and gluing all the pages together to form the balloon of the hot air balloon. For this project I tried to use only paper, but to be able to create the form I had to use thread, yarn, and tape. The most difficult aspect of this project was trying to weave the basket for the balloon. The ratio was very difficult to obtain because I didn't know whether to go for a realistic size or more fictional size (such as Doctor Suess). The texture of the balloon was the most successful in my opinion. The folded paper adds character to this piece and turned out better than I thought it would. Overall I think it turned out decent but there are definitely things I would change about it.
The concept and idea for the project was successful, although I didn't carry it out successfully. I would have taken my time to cut even smooth arches and made the details neater. The product does not resemble the one I had imagined, but this was my first time using this medium. My preferred medium is clay because it's easy to mold so pieces fit together better than Styrofoam. Styrofoam is very difficult to work with due to it's lack of flexibility. Overall I think this was a decent piece considering it was my first time working with this medium in a limited time period.
So far the installation project has been successful. We work together well as a team and we all consider each other's thoughts & ideas. Everyone participates whether they work individually or in a small group, and encourage each other. The only thing that I would consider to be not successful was the lack of communication, because our product (in progress) has strayed significantly from the original idea we decided on.
